The Big Valley Difference

Do you remember the first time you came on to the Big Valley campus? I do! I came to tour the preschool with Mrs. Toney in 2003, looking for a great preschool for my daughter. As I toured, it was apparent to me that BVCS was the right place to enroll my daughter. But how did I know?

Well, there were certainly plenty of tangible things that I could see that I loved. The facilities were great. The people I spoke to and saw around the campus were engaging, warm and clearly loved kids. I even encountered older students who opened the door for me and greeted me!

But there was something else: a “feeling” that BVCS was the right fit for my family. I believe now, 18 years later, that the “feeling” I experienced, coupled with the great things I could see, make up “The Big Valley Difference.” The following is a short list of things that I believe are a part of The Big Valley Difference:

  1. Our Christ-Centered Focus is the Big Valley Difference - From Chapels to our Bible curriculum and classes, to discipleship and baptisms, BVCS seeks to make Christ known to each student and family. A wonderful example of equipping students for Christ is found each year as our Campus Pastor arranges for students to be baptized. Check out the most recent baptisms here

  2. Our Staff is the Big Valley Difference - Our staff, preschool through 12th grade, love kids! They nurture them and equip them to go out into the world and make an impact for Jesus Christ. I have witnessed the countless prayers prayed over students and families, the tears when there is concern for a student and the celebrations when our students have success and breakthroughs. This staff of amazing Christian educators is inspiring to see in action!

  3. Our Students are the Big Valley Difference - At every phase of school, our students have hearts to grow, to be disciplined and to learn - both academically and spiritually.  Here’s where I have to share a wonderful student story: Recently, one of our high school students (who has been at BVCS since preschool) had a birthday. Instead of asking for and receiving gifts for herself, she gave her birthday money toward the BVCS IMPACT Fund so that other students would be able to benefit from being at BVCS. She said, “I just don’t know what I’d do without BVCS.”

I can keep going! The Big Valley Difference is also:

  • Staff devotions and prayer time

  • Partnership and support from a thriving church

  • Being open during COVID-19

  • Making athletics happen, even when restrictions are challenging

  • Creating a unique arts opportunity where students can share original works and talents

  • A College & Career Prep Department that creates individualized plans for every high school student

  • Personal phone calls, text and emails that check-in on students

  • Community! BVCS has a family-like atmosphere

Now it’s your turn!

I’d love to hear from you! What is it that makes BVCS unique, special, or different for your family? How have you been impacted by the Big Valley Difference? Reach out to me at michellem@bvg.org. I’d love to hear your story!
