Nurturing and Equipping Students to Impact the World for Jesus
From preschool through high school, BVCS partners with families to nurture and equip Christlike character, academic excellence, and a heart for service in every student.
Meet our Incoming Superintendent
Meet David O’Leary
David O’Leary brings decades of experience in education and leadership, along with a deep commitment to shaping young people to know Christ and engage the world with wisdom and conviction.
Although his professional background began in public education, David felt a clear calling to Christian education when the opportunity arose to help students learn how to understand and defend their faith. Seeing firsthand how Christian education can equip students to thoughtfully engage culture for Jesus strengthened his commitment to the mission of schools like Big Valley Christian School.
David began his career as a teacher and coach in the public school system, where he spent eleven years investing directly in students and witnessing the profound influence educators can have on young lives. Recognizing the opportunity to broaden that impact, he moved into school leadership and served in a variety of administrative roles. Throughout those years, he prioritized staying closely connected to the school community while remaining rooted in family life with his wife and four children.
His philosophy of Christian education is grounded in the biblical call to love God with our heart, soul, mind, and strength. He believes Christian schools should not only cultivate academic excellence but also nurture the formation of the heart and soul. By developing both critical thinking and moral discernment, Christian education prepares students to think biblically, serve others faithfully, and use their God-given abilities for the glory of God.
David describes his leadership style as servant leadership—using authority, resources, and influence to help teachers and staff succeed in their calling. He believes that when leaders serve their teams well, educators are empowered to do their very best work for students.
What excites him most about stepping into the role of Superintendent at BVCS is the opportunity to build on the strong foundation that has already been established and to see where God will lead the school in the years ahead. He brings a combination of vision, creativity, listening, and thoughtful observation—traits he believes will help him understand the needs of students, families, and staff as BVCS continues to grow and flourish.
David’s leadership has also been shaped by many meaningful moments throughout his career when former students, parents, or colleagues shared how something he said or did impacted them—often years later. Those experiences continually remind him that every interaction matters and that faithfully “being there” for others can make a lasting difference.
His faith is central to his leadership and decision-making. He believes Scripture and prayer are essential for guiding leaders as they seek God’s wisdom in serving others.
David and his wife—who teaches third grade—have four grown children living across the country: an ER doctor near Pittsburgh, a marketing director in Napa, an art teacher in Richmond, and a data scientist in Detroit. They are also proud grandparents of three grandchildren and enjoy spending as much time with family as possible. When he is not at school, David enjoys sports and playing guitar and keyboards.
As he begins this new chapter at BVCS, David shares a simple message with the school community:
“I am excited for the future of BVCS and what God will lead us to do together as we continue furthering His kingdom.”
