Let Restoration Begin!

Last Thursday was an amazing day. Why? It was the first time in over a year that the entire Big Valley Christian School Staff got together, in person! Of course we have met through Zoom and in small groups numerous times, but last Thursday we were able to bring back something that had been deeply missed - our All Staff gatherings. It was wonderful to have 92 BVCS staff all in one place, in person, with the purpose of encouraging one another, fellowshipping together and spending extended time in prayer.  It was a sweet time to reflect on the Lord’s work at BVCS and to look forward to the restoration process ahead.

I bet most of us can agree we miss many “normal” things about the way school “used to be.” Over the last year, we have endured significant challenges, obstacles and disappointments - a season marked with many uncertainties. Starting now, I believe it is time to move into a season of restoration. Now is the time to return things to their former condition -  and maybe even better! Here’s what we need to do:

First, let’s be a people of prayer. Spend time talking to the Lord. Be in his Word and be in prayer. Ask for his wisdom, direction and strength - all of which are his tools of grace. Let’s commit to being a united people of Christ that are in the Word and in prayer.

Next, let’s get to work!  It’s time to rebuild, regain and restore... building a bridge back to the things we have sorely missed. Returning things back to their former condition, but looking to make things even better, all for the glory of God. Let’s recommit ourselves as a community to deliver on our promise to provide excellence in Christian education as we nurture and equip our students to impact the world for Jesus Christ! Let’s do this one step at a time, one prayer at a time and start making one change at a time.

This season of restoration began on Thursday when the entire BVCS staff spent a few hours praying over our students, families, staff, campus and community. It started when we celebrated our many wins and gave God all the glory:

  • We are a united Staff of 108

  • Currently serving 776 Students

  • Over 70 new students this year

  • Over 500 families at BVCS this year

  • We have 830 students coming next year

  • Our goal is to start 2021-2022 with 870 students

  • A step toward restoring things back to their original state: Thursday was the last day the BVCS was required to submit an online health form. They continue to only come to work and stay at work when healthy, but the health check google doc is no longer required.

It was a day I needed way more than I realized. A great opportunity to refocus, reconnect and get excited for restoration! And as I close, I’d like to share our prayer for BVCS:

Lord, our prayer is that we live out Philippians 4:6 that says “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all He has done.” We lift up this time of prayer for our school, students, families, community and each other. We pray that many come to the saving knowledge of You during this Easter season. Lord, we ask that you will guide and direct our steps to rebuild and restore our school and community as we move forward in your love and grace. Amen
