The Role of the Christian Teacher
I often get asked about the qualifications of the teachers at Big Valley Christian School. In my experience, the teachers that feel called to work in the ministry of BVCS are incredibly qualified! But let me define qualified…
First, a BVCS teacher must have a vibrant, personal walk with Christ.
Next, our teachers must love working with kids.
And finally, each teacher must be teachable themselves; willing to work in unity with a team for the combined vision of bringing glory to God by striving to reach the highest standards of Christian education.
Notice I haven’t even gotten to college degrees and credentials yet! Our teachers need to have expert knowledge of their content as proven through their own education. And a state credential is a start. But at BVCS, all teachers must also hold an ACSI certification which ensures they have a solid foundation in teaching from a biblical worldview through the use of biblically integrated methods.
Beyond a resume, BVCS values the role of the teacher and believes the teacher is the living curriculum. What students see in a teacher will be remembered and often modeled by students. An effective Christian teacher interacts with students in a setting that creates a climate of stability; where students of all ages are nurtured to mutually respect each other and the teacher. And one of the greatest privileges a Christian teacher has is to represent absolute truth; representing God. God’s word, His truth, is foundational, connective, the core and essence of what we teach to our students. The BVCS teacher is committed to the education of the whole child: spiritually, academically, physically as well as socially. Are our teachers qualified? Absolutely!
